Is the term “Superfoods” just a marketing tactic?

There is a lot of hype these days around “Superfoods” – the term is used on TV commercials, in magazines, even in supermarkets, but what does it mean and why is there so much fuss?

In its simplest term, Superfoods refers to types of food with high nutritional content. They are usually plant based foods although some dairy and fish products are labelled as superfood. However, the definition and criteria for a “superfood” is subjective, which is the cause for controversy in the health community.

There is no disputing the health benefits of regularly consuming superfoods, although its important to ensure that a healthy diet consists of a well balanced quantity of nutritional food. The body cannot optimally survive on superfoods alone.

The list of superfoods below are particularly high in nutritional elements that support the body’s own detoxification process.
